Ashgate Publishing powstało w 1967. Główną siedzibą wydawnictwa jest Farnham (Wielka Brytania), oprócz tego ma biura w: Stanach Zjednoczonych (w Burligton) i drugie biuro w Wielkiej Brytanii - w Londynie. W 2016 weszło w skład Routledge Taylor & Francis Group.
